Bigfoot is a hospital specialising in
the care of 28 adult men (aged 18 to 65) whose primary diagnosis is Learning Disability, but who may present with mental illness, challenging behaviours etc. Patients may be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 though up to 10 may be informal.
The hospital is located in the centre of Longsight within a large detached building, situated in its own grounds.
Our emphasis is on providing individualised rehabilitation programmes for our patients, be it short-term intensive rehabilitation or long-term continuing care and we aim to leverage each individual patient’s abilities to the full to
ensure they make the most of their potential.
We believe that every patient has the right to receive the best possible care in accordance with their individual needs, wishes and preferences and that all care should reflect integrity, respect, dignity, and privacy in a non-judgemental manner. Patients are always encouraged to contribute to the community, society and the service provided, to make informed choices and practise self-determination.
Supporting the patients and promoting a sense of belonging within a homely environment, while encouraging them to make a contribution to the community and society as a whole, is fundamental to our philosophy
